Sprint Tasks
✓ Professional Development
During sprint 9, this professional development activity focuses on helping you effectively communicate your work through posters and supporting documentation.
When: Professional Development Due on Gradescope by Wed, Feb 4, 2026 @ 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
1. Poster Critique
Why: Clear and effective visual communication is an essential professional skill. This activity helps you understand what is required for a successful project poster by reviewing examples from previous years.
What: In this assignment , you will review two posters and reflect on poster design:
-
Poster #1: select poster from the provided Honorable Mentions list;
-
Poster #2: select poster of your choice from the Symposium Page.
Use the provided rubric to evaluate each poster’s clarity, structure, visual design, and content. Then complete a short reflection identifying elements you would replicate, improve, or avoid when creating your own poster.
2. Documentation
Why: Documentation is essential in both The Data Mine and the real world. While it might not be the most exciting part of your job, it is one of the most valuable. Therefore, it is important to stay up to date with it and reflect on how your team has kept up thus far.
What: Read The importance of documentation article or listen to the accompanying podcast (created using NotebookLM) to understand the role of documentation in project work. Then complete your reflection.
✓ Sprint Report
Why: The Sprint Report is part of your grade and helps you reflect on your past work. It also gives you the chance to step back, recognize your impact, and track your growth as a teammate and professional. Each section is designed to help you think about your role, your progress, and how you are applying professional skills in a real project setting.
What: For Sprint #9, your report has three parts:
-
Self-Evaluation - evaluate your presence, contributions, and collaboration using the provided rubrics, and justify your choices.
-
Implementation Check from Professional Development - describe how you implemented the selected action from Team Values and explain what you did and what you learned.
-
Reflection - connect your experiences from this sprint to project practices and the program.
